Building Capacity to Reduce Substance Use Harms:

 Researching Effective Evaluation Standards for the Supervised Consumption Site in Saskatoon SK

About The Project

Thank you to our community partner, Prairie Harm Reduction

This project proposes a case study examination of PHR’s health service provision with an emphasis on the Supervised Consumption Site (SCS) for reducing substance use related harms and connecting PWAS with additional supports.

The three goals of this case study are:

1) To determine the impact and value of the SCS for people who access services and the wider community;

2) To determine the impact and value of the SCS for the organization providing this site;

3) To enhance the research and evaluation capacity of the organization (including staff and service providers) for increased service opportunities and sustainable health service funding.

To achieve these goals, we will focus on four research objectives:

1) Assess how SCS services impact the health and well-being of people who access the site.

2) Assess the impacts of the SCS on the broader community’s health and well-being with emphasis on PHR’s role in the continuum of care for people who use substances.

3) Assess the impacts of the SCS on the service organization by mapping the internal service and data capacity of the agency, including referral to health-related social service and justice system supports.

4) Enhance organizational capacity for research and evaluation by offering staff and service provider training based on project outcomes to address knowledge gaps in the workforce.

Project Output: SROI Workshop

Welcome to SURGE-SK Research Foundation

On August 20th, 2025, we hosted a social return on investment workshop to share how researchers and community organizations can conduct their own SROI. Thank you to Anne Miller for sharing her insights and expertise with us!
